photography - drawing with light

today we have been creating drawings using a prolonged shutter speed and a coloured torch. the first images were created by drawing around a figure stood in front of us using a torch. initially we used the torch to trace carefully around the figure and the second time we scribbled behind them to illuminate the form. the results are pictured above. on each photograph, i was drawing the figure second from the right. the final images remind me of light shows and firework displays. i prefer the first picture as i think that tracing around the figure creates a much smoother and refined effect.

we then moved on to drawing a figure without being stood behind it. for each photograph, a model posed behind the camera and we drew them in the air with our torches. initially we each individually drew a single model before grouping together and drawing multiple figures. i really like the pictures we produce and like the way the figures have turned out. although they don't look exactly like people and are very simple i believe they are successful in capturing form and movement.
