photography - styling project

this afternoon we have been studying the work of thorsten brinkmann and alison brady, two fine art photographers who use clothing and props to alter the human form. brinkmann works by using items such as reversed coats and buckets to completely cover the human form and distort the figure until it is almost unrecognisable. brady works in a similar way but her images are much more macabre and grotesque than brinkmann's.

drawing inspiration from both brinkmann and brady we used clothing and props to create our own abstract forms based upon the human body. i was aiming to create a figure reminiscent of a witch doctor or shaman. i used two lab coats worn backwards and padded them with bits of wadding to create the shape of the figure. i also wrapped two large pebbles to my model's fit, securing them with gauze which i also wrapped around the neck. i feel as though this piece is very effective and provides a strong aesthetic. i wanted to create something very uncomfortable and macabre and feel as though it achieves this. i really enjoyed this project as i'm interested in fashion and styling and enjoyed using uncommon objects to create depth and character.
