fine art - day one

our first weekly workshop at college is fine art. before i began the foundation degree i already thought that i might want to choose to specialise in fine art when we choose our pathway at the end of the workshop period. i like the freedom that painting and drawing provides and really enjoyed my a level studies in art and design. on the first day, we were instructed to create 'modern cave paintings' based on metaphors using objects from around the room and those that we had brought from home. we were allowed to use the objects in a number of ways such as tracing around them, using them to create stencils and projecting their images directly onto pieces of paper. however, we weren't allowed to draw or paint from observation or imagination. despite the amount of freedom we were given i found this exercise rather restricting and uninspiring, and above all i didn't like the work that was being produced based on our brief. the images above are just two of the many pieces that i produced today. although i haven't enjoyed today's workshop i am still looking forward to the rest that fine art has to offer and i hope that i find it more inspiring and engaging.
