the above images are photographs of drawings i have produced during the first two of our weekly life drawing classes. i was really excited about these workshops as i have always been interested in capturing the human form. i have taken a couple of life drawing classes before, but none of these have every involved drawing the nude human form. the first few hours of the first session were quite daunting as observing the naked body so closely is something i have never done before. i was quite relieved that the college has chosen to employ models with older and more natural bodies than i am used to seeing on traditional models. this allows us to develop a much broader understanding of the human form during a variety of different stages of life. i have always been quite confident in my life drawing abilities, but these classes have brought me back to basics with drawing the human form and i am finding it very easy to spot flaws and imperfections in my drawings. however, i am noticing an improvement in my observations. we have also been instructed to carry out research into different artists and sculptors in between our life drawing sessions which has improved my understanding of how each person observes the human form differently and has inspired me to keep working on my own drawings.
